Diana East

After working for over twenty years as a freelance jewellery designer/maker I turned to working in glass in 1995. I have found this a wonderful medium for personal expression and have been able to help to introduce other people to it through teaching the technique of flame work. I also demonstrate and give lectures. In 2001 I went to India to work with native craftsmen on new designs for a commercial catalogue and since then I have taught in Switzerland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, and USA as well as here in Britain.
I find it amazing and fascinating that consciousness is an electro chemical process and that perception is entirely virtual, being processed by the brain. I am doubly confounded by the fact that the brain works on a quantum level and that quantum theory does not obey our accepted laws of physics. I try to visualise these apparent facts through my work in glass.
I mainly make wearable pieces because I am interested in how the wearing of a piece can alter one's perception of self.

Claudia Pagel

After studying at a fine Arts College in Germany, I worked for 10 years as a grafic designer in the Paris region. Now working in the north of France, I discovered glass beads by accident five years ago and started as a self-taught practitioner. Subsequently, I've took some classes with, Akihiro Okhama, Sarah Hornik and Diana East.

A strange series of coincidences led me to discover lampwork in November 2005. I took a course with the talented and experienced Amnon Elbaz at Gil Raphal, a local glass supplier and school here in Tel Aviv. It was so different from anything I'd ever done before. Fascinated with the magical, unfamilliar world of color and form, transparency and light, temperature and gravity, I was instantly hooked.

My life has changed dramatically since then. It took just a few months for me to abandon my 8-year long career as a web designer. I am now a full-time beadmaker, spending all the time I can at the torch in my little home studio in Tel Aviv, Israel - and enjoying every minute of it!

Anouk Jasperse
